Fishing Trip - Lake Tetonka, MN

My first real fishing trip!! Shawn's Mom hosted us and the rest of the family at the cabin for some fishing, fun, and good food! From right to left is Paul, Bernadine, me, Mike, Shawn, Julie, and Patty. This time Patty takes the pic.... Mary (Shawn's Mom is sitting next to Shawn). And some smarty pants decides I need to have a corn hat...

This was a third attempt on Saturday before dinner. Still no fish....

Sitting by the campfire... we had one all night... It was cool!

Yay!! After some coaching from Shawn's Mom, I finally caught my first fish!!! (This was the next day)

I think Shawn's Mom caught the most fish. She definitely caught the first one and got us going. She was catching them left and right and throwing back in if they were too small. A Real PRO!! Shawn thinks he caught the most. I caught the least, but I did have a couple of keepers.. I'll need to work on my technique for next time :)!

Kit Carson Peak 14,165' and Challenger Point 14,081'

Here is our friend Dave. He is going with us on this hike. We have to hike in 4 miles, because it is too much to do in one day. Pretty valley....

We saw lots of wildlife watching over us where we made camp...

The End... We woke up the next day to rain and clouds.... This is not the kind of hike you can do in that kind of weather.... So, we packed up and went home.... We'll see you next time Kit Carson and Challenger....

Great Sand Dunes National Park

A day of rest and and a day to check out the Great Sand Dunes National Park... This is the tallest dune. If you click on this picture, you can see the little people hiking to the top... It's some hot sand... We admired from afar....

Early in the summer, there is a creek, and it's just like a beach!

Humboldt Peak 14,064'

Same trailhead - different mountain... cool deer frolicking in the field.... The deer decided to go for a swim...

Time to go up the ridge... Humboldt peak in the distance on the right...

Crestone Needle (left) and Crestone Peak (right) on the other side... Did we really do those yesterday? YES, WE REALLY DID!!!

We started bright and early, because we knew we had two challenging peaks ahead!! The picture does not do this view justice! Crestone Needle in plain view...

We have to get over BrokenHand Pass first...

I'm almost to the top of the pass....

On other side... unforutnately, we have to go back down and hike through this valley before starting up Crestone Peak...

We have already started going back up... and this is looking down from where we came....

Looking up at how much more to do ... this is over 1000' of class 3 climbing.... eek!!

This is after we got back down ... a pretty mountain lake area.... And now, at the top of Crestone Needle! It didn't go as quick as the pics, but we made it!!!
