Missouri Peak 14,067', Iowa Pk 13,831', Emerald Peak 13,904'

Hello!! We got 3 peaks this day. Missouri, the 14er, Iowa, a 13er, and Emerald, a centennial 13er. The top 100 tallest peaks in Colorado are called Centennial peaks and include 14ers and 13ers. We try and climb the 13ers too that are part of that list when we can. Mount Silverheels and Red Mountain (also in this blog), were centennials that we climbed this year.

This is the landmark lake from where we started. Clohesy Lake - It used to be private, but now, is public. Lots of people 4WD up here and go fishing. This is me in the distance getting to ready to climb up this grassy slope. Missouri is near by this ridge.
This is a picture of Huron Peak, a 14er. We will most likely get to this one next year.

Picture of the valley from the ridge.

This is almost to the top of that ridge I told you about. The grassy slope turned to rocky slope. That's me again. Shawn carried the camera this time. Sometimes he gets camera happy.

Here is the trail on the top of the ridge. The mountains got a light dusting of snow - surprising, because it has been pretty hot lately. Missouri is in the distance (highest point in the pic).

Shawn has climbed this mountain (before he knew me). He climbed it again with me, so I could catch up. This picture below is a shot of the way he came up it last time.

This is me just after going down a steep section. One last uphill and I'll be there.

We made it !! Would you believe it was 2 miles to the top, but 3000'+ elevation gain!! Shortest distance I think we've done. Eek! Oh, and yes, it was sunny, but windy and cold.

This is a pic of our next route from Missouri. We are going to follow this ridge to Iowa peak which is on the right, and not very promient, and then, from there go up to Emerald Peak which is the pointy mountain in the center of this pic.

Views from the top of Missouri. Emerald peak is on the right.
This is from the top of Iowa peak. That is Clohesy Lake in the center that I told you about in the beginning.

From the top of Emerald Peak!

And here we are!!!
This is a picture of the mountains named, The 3 Apostles.
This is a picture of the way we go down.
Bonus points if you can find me, and 2 other fellow hikers coming down this ridge. You will need to click on the picture to make it bigger in order to find us! Of course, Speedy Gonazles, I mean Shawn is already at the bottom. Emerald peak is behind us at the top left.
At the bottom admiring the grassy tundra and pretty flowers.
Looking down the valley at the way back to Clohesy lake.
Well, another successful and SAFE hike!!! Next week, we leave for a week long excursion... Fun times ahead! I wish you a great next 2 weeks. Be happy!!!
